My anxiety

I created this blog as a way to express my feelings, to be honest with myself and share my journey with others. One thing that has affected me hugely (especially since starting University) is my Anxiety.

Anxiety is a very common mental health condition, it can however affect people in many different ways. It isn’t just having panic attacks, and anxiety is not just an excuse. There is still a lot of Stigma surrounding anxiety that states “most people believe that people with anxiety could snap out of it if they wanted to.” This is so not true, and in fact sometimes it is stigma like this which is worse than the mental health condition itself.

I have days where I go to University so early in the morning purely so I don’t get overwhelmed by the huge amount of people and have time to adjust myself, but still I feel this clenching in my stomach that rips the breath out of my body and just makes me feel hopeless. It’s January now, which means I have been at Uni for nearly 4 months already. And yet because of my anxiety, I forget how to speak, how to make friends etc. Now I feel as if I am alone most days at uni, not knowing how to communicate with people and make those friends my mind urges to have.

In one way I am in a lucky position. I have found a way of coping in this blog. And I have managed to start speaking to professionals about how I feel. I hope in some way that maybe this blog will inspire someone. Light the path for someone to talk about their struggles and continue this movement of speaking up about mental health

Until Next Time- Tom JF Wood
